Made To Order: What Does That Mean?

by Kerra Sunderlin |

You may have noticed that specific products say they’re made to order and wondered exactly what that means. For a lot of my printed shirts, stickers and prints, I depend on Printful to print and ship my orders. They’re the best in the industry for print quality and speedy fulfillment. Plus they’re constantly coming out with new products and print techniques which allows me to keep offer you guys the latest and the greatest.

Essentially made to order means the second you submit your order, Printful gets to work on picking and printing the exact product you order. As your product moves through the process, Printful is going to check the quality and make sure all your products end up together before shipping it out to you! Of course, this means there’s longer wait time for your product as it needs to be made (especially with COVID-19 effecting all supply chains). But I think its worth the wait for a process I believe in so wholeheartedly.

While this process keeps me from having a stockpile of products that may never sell and actually allows me to offer more designs for you to choose from, thats not even the best part. The best part is just how eco-friendly this process is. Printful has made great strides to make their process sustainable. Any DTG (direct-to-garment) printed product uses eco-friendly inks that are CPSIA-compliant, non-toxic, non-hazardous, and soluble in water. They're free from heavy metals, formaldehyde, and Alkylphenol Ethoxylates (APE). Of course thats a bunch of technical jumbo jumbo that tells you it results in a soft vintage feeling design thats safe for you and our planet.

They also stock a brand that I’m quite fond of for their sustainable and human friendly products: Bella + Canvas. They use less energy and water, create less waste and are even made in the USA with no sweatshops. I’m proud to use their shirts for my designs and it doesn’t hurt that their shirts are so unbelievably soft and perfect. A true win-win situation.

So while it may be a small inconvenience to have your product made to order, I hope you understand why this process is so important to me. What we sacrifice in speed and instant-gratification, we make up for in sustainability that makes Mother Nature smile. So why don’t you add a few shirts to your cart so you can see what the hype is all about and get your hands on these unicorn soft tees that are more than worth the wait!
